Buffy: It's nice that you're excited.
Willow: It's just that in High School, knowledge was pretty much frowned upon, you really had to work to learn anything. But here... the energy, the collective intelligence, it's like this force. This penetrating force.. and I can just feel my mind opening up, you know, and letting this place just thrust into and spurt knowledge into... [considers what she's saying] That sentence ended up in a different place than it started out in.
You will now be treated to a retelling of my summer journeys involving The Taste of Chicago with a heaping helping of pictures.
This is the view of the Taste from the 10th floor of a nearby hotel

Neat ain't it? After me and my family got our stuff put away we headed down to get some food. I tried a few different things like orange chicken (too darn spicy), Pork-filled Banana dumpling (good), Breakfast pizza (really good), Chocolate dipped fruit kabob (good), and Organic BBQ tofu skewers(spicy but still ok). Now before anyone gives me grief for eating tofu let me inform you that I also ate shark. You read that correctly. I took a bite of Skewered Veracruz. Granted I only took one bite since it both smelled and tasted like it was rotting but it still counts!
A lovely view of the night sky

It was Wednesday so Navy Pier which you can see here to the right of the buildings:

had some fireworks. I took some video of it but it didn't turn out to well so you'll be spared that.
The next morning I got up to this view:

I put on my kilt, grabbed my tripod, and went for and somewhat early morning walk.

Impressive don't you think?

Less than impressive.
I headed on over to Buckingham Fountain:

Then onward to the lakefront:

I sat there for a bit:

That was a tad boring so I decided to see what the Taste was like before it opened:

It was deserted except for a few workers. I know I shouldn't have expected much but I'm just so used to it being crowded as hell.
The Illinois Lottery Taste stage. I'm not sure why they had it down like this.

The wheel of Morality! A great shot of the Ferris wheel.

On my way back to the hotel I took a few shots at a eagle:

I liked the way the rays of light shone down in this one:

After resting a short while my parents and I met my aunt and we proceeded to the Taste to eat like we had been starving. Despite my encounters with spicy or rotting food the day before I continued to try new things like Strawberry shortcake with yogurt (really good), Chicken and waffles (not good), Vanilla flan (good), Sweet potato hash browns (ok), Spinach and basil pizza (ok), and Sweet potato cheesecake (good). I also tried a Steak burger with blue cheese and mustard sauce but it tasted like a dry hamburger.
Before it got crowded I decided to wander around and take a few more pictures:

It'll be packed shoulder to shoulder a short while after this.

A wire woman:

A different Indian than before in the background.

I can't take a bunch a pictures of Chicago with out showing a little skyline.

They had a screen set up showing a few clips from various movies.

Here is where the people broadcasting the night's show were set up.

After stuffing ourselves we went back (aunt included) to the hotel room to relax watch T.V. and await the big firework show. We ended up waiting longer than we planed since the show was delayed a few minutes. The broadcast team did a pretty good job of passing the time though. It wasn't until we got home the next day that we found out there had been a shooting. The show itself was ok. The fireworks were great but where normally there was orchestra music playing some great songs this year they had pop music. It would have been better accompanied by silence.
Here is a sample of what it looked like:
(This is actually from the year before but it looked the same as far as my camera was concerned.)
The aftermath:

And thus ends this journey. An ending to which I press the post button and hope for many responses and where you after reading this realize that the pie is a lie and your time here would have been better spent on looking at porn.
May the loins of toyota be blown asunder by high explosives.
